If you searched “how to lock in,” you probably do not need another speech about discipline. You need a way into the work you already chose. Try this short reset.
Start with one finish line.
Replace “study” or “work on the project” with something you can point to when you are done: answer five questions, outline one section, fix one bug, or read a few pages and write down the main idea.
- Name the result. Write one sentence describing what this session should leave behind.
- Choose the first move. Open the right file, put the book on the right page, or write the first question. Make starting almost boring.
- Clear one interruption. Put the phone out of reach, close unrelated tabs, or silence one notification source. You do not need a perfect room; remove the easiest distraction first.
- Pick an honest amount of time. Choose a timer that feels workable for this task today. There is no special duration that works for everyone.
- Catch the drift. If another task pops into your head, jot it down and return to the next visible action.
Why can’t I lock in?
There is not one answer. A task can be unclear or too large to start; interruptions, stress, or not getting enough sleep can also make concentrating harder. For students, the CDC notes that enough sleep supports concentration and academic performance.
One frustrating day does not tell you what is going on. If difficulty paying attention is persistent and getting in the way across school, work, or home, talk with a qualified health professional. NIMH explains that other issues can cause symptoms similar to ADHD; a webpage cannot diagnose you.
Can LOCK IN help?
LOCK IN is a Windows focus app for choosing work apps and setting a timed session. During a session it minimises reviewed apps outside your selection when they come forward. Unknown apps and protected Windows components stay available. Website rules need the separate Chrome or Edge companion connected to the desktop app.
